This 3020m unit has been modified to replace the expired hard-wired memory backup battery with a standard CR2032 replaceable socketed battery (see photos), so the unit is fully functional including preservation of saved user patches when powered down. The synth includes 50 factory patches and storage for 50 custom user patches. Because the 3020 controls the 3020m directly with analog CV instead of MIDI, the responsiveness when playing is unmatchably fast and smooth.
The original factory CV cable is included in this bundle, as well as a power cord for the 3020m. The 3020m sound module is a 2U rack-mount analog synth, designed to pair with the 3020 controller. A pair of touch-sensitive plates allows the other thumb to control pitchbend. The EWI has an enormous eight-octave range, covering more notes than the 88 keys of a piano! With thumb rollers to effortlessly switch octaves and a thumb pressure sensor to control glide/glissando, melodies can soar to the heights and tumble to the depths in dramatic and inspiring ways. Advanced players will find that there are multiple alternate fingerings for every note, in combinations that are not possible on an acoustic instrument but can be extremely helpful for playing fast complex passages in odd key signatures. The fingering scheme is similar to sax or other woodwind instruments, and the fingering technique will feel especially familiar to recorder players. With almost no moving parts, the touch-sensitive keys allow for playing super-fast runs and smooth trills. The mouthpiece senses breath pressure to control the intensity and articulation of the synth, and bite pressure to control vibrato. The Akai EWI3020 Electic Wind Instrument was my first breath-controlled synth, and it will always have a special place in my heart.
This windsynth rig provides amazing potential for studio recording, live performance, sound design and more! Both items are fully functional and in excellent condition with only minor cosmetic scratches.
